Missionaries - Retired
Having formerly served with the Brazil Inland Mission, Inc, Alice Thompson joined the BGFM family on September 27, 2018.
Alice and her departed husband, Bob, originally went with BGFM to serve as missionaries to Brazil (Bob in 1952, Alice in 1953).
Alice received her Bible education at Midwest Bible Institute (now, Calvary University) and served the Lord faithfully for 43 years in Brazil. The couple was blessed with five children – and their son, David, presently resides in Brazil as a missionary. God led Bob & Alice to the jungles of southern Brazil where they helped found the city of Umuarama, Parana, Brazil on April 21, 1955. The BIM, Inc. was born in May of 1955 as a result of the Thompson’s move to southern Brazil. They did church planting for 13 years and also founded the Evangelical Grade School in 1964 which still functions to this day. In 1968, they founded the Southern Theological Bible Seminary where they both taught for 27 years. In 2000, the Seminary was moved to Vitória da Conquista, Bahia – under the new name of the Thompson Theological Bible Seminary.
Bob & Alice retired from active missionary service in January 1996 to live on the Thompson homestead in Long Prairie, MN. Their title, “Missionaries At Large,” allowed them to continue to be involved in missions, do much traveling and speaking, and Bob served as an Interim Pastor at the Round Prairie Community Church. Bob was ushered into the presence of the Lord on June 23, 2009.
Alice moved to Waukon, IA in July 2010 to live near her daughter, Cristina; and attend the church where her son-in-law, Duane Smith pastors. Alice continues her ministries in any capacity the Lord allows her; she is a communicator about missions, prayer warrior, and involved with her local church, First Baptist Church. Due to Alice’s great contributions in education, home-schooling all five of her children, and training Brazilians, the Alice Thompson Christian Grade School was dedicated in her honor on June 16, 2017 at a special occasion in which Alice was present (Vitoria da Conquista, Bahia).
Alice gives all glory to God for these opportunities, and asserts that re-joining BGFM is “like coming home” – a full-circle of returning to the original mission that she & Bob went with so many years ago! Alice’s life-long motto has been:
“Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord."
