Sam & Jeanne went to the field as singles, but within a few short years
Just before the 80s hit, Jeanne had a brain tumor removed (the 1st of many surgeries over the next 30+ years). She had to scale down her activities, but continued to work in a more limited capacity. In the 80s, Sam had the pleasure of working with son, Philip in a TEE ministry. In the 90s he moved on into teaching in the seminary and helping start church plants in outlying areas.
By the mid to late 90s, they retired and moved to the NW so Jeanne could get the medical care she needed. They settled in Salem, OR right next door to their youngest daughter, Susanna, and her family. They’ve had the privilege of mentoring their grand-children and watching them grow. They’re also involved in a great church and participate as they are able.
they became a couple. They returned to the US on their 1st furlough as a family! God’s blessed them with 3 children, 5 grand-children, and now the great-grands are beginning to make their appearances!
With the exception of the 1st term, when they lived in the interior town of Quixeramobim, they’ve concentrated their ministry in and around the city of Fortaleza. They began a church plant and built (with help) their 1st camp in Pajucara where many young Christians went to learn and be challenged.
Less than 10 years later, they were involved in re-building it in another location and spent a good part of the 70s in charge of camp & mission home, and acting as dorm parents for BGFM.
During these years, the Pajucara church ‘sprouted’ a new work in Parangaba. That kept them busy with 2 active church plants. In the late 70s they moved in Parangaba where they could concentrate efforts in that area.
